Capital presents A Night at the Movies

-

A FAMILY evening of fun is promised at a charity concert that will bring Disney and Broadway to the capital this month.

A Night at the Movies will feature songs from an array of classic Disney animated films and musicals. Together with colourful costumes, sets and dance, organisers are promising an extraordinary night out.

It follows last year’s Halloween Diva and Ateş show at Bellapais Abbey, featuring Broadway hits.

Marking this month’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, the event also aims to raise funds for the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation for Children with Leukaemia and the Fight Against Cancer.

Former Grammy award nominee soprano Demetra George Mustafaoğlu will lead the concert, joined by 12-yearold Peri Sualp, daughter of organiser Ece Sualp, countertenor Nuri Harun Ateş, pianist Önder Cebeci and dancer Evgenia Zhilskaya.

Appealing to all generations, the repertoire includes songs from favourites such as Annie, Peter Pan, Les Misérables, The Sound of Music, The Little Mermaid, and Mary Poppins.

Younger Disney fans can enjoy songs from Frozen, as well as “dancers and mascots”, while youngsters who turn up in costume may also get a chance see the show from close up in an apron seating area.

Mrs Mustafaoğlu said: “We are so happy to do this again for the Saraçoğlu Foundation.

“I’m a former breast cancer patient with years remaining until I’m clear so in the meantime I’ve given my heart to charity.”

A Night at the Movies takes place on Saturday, April 28, from 8pm, at the Atatürk Cultural Centre in Lefkoşa.

Tickets cost 35TL, available from the Kemal Saraçoğlu Foundation headquarters at Atatürk Square, in the walled city of Lefkoşa, or by calling Mrs Sualp on 0533 831 0113. More outlets will also be announced.
