THIS laidback comedy thriller with an all-star cast will make you smile.

Brad Pitt is Jerry, a crime boss’s dim-witted underling who is sent south of the border to collect The Mexican, a priceless antique pistol.

Jerry has a habit of screwing up and to keep him focused, mob boss Gene Hackman sends a hitman to kidnap Jerry’s girlfriend Julia Roberts in Las Vegas.

Jerry gets his girl when his boss gets the pistol. Consequently stars Brad and Julia don’t share many scenes together.

The consolation is that the hostage Julia becomes good pals with her amiable kidnapper James Gandolfini.

Pitt is amusing as a wannabe wise guy, a compulsive loser whose idea of speaking the local lingo is to add “o” to every word. Comprendo, amigo?

Roberts convinces as his bossy boots girlfriend, but Gandolfini steals the picture.

Their scenes together are one of the highlights of an entertaining movie.

In 2001, Gore Verbinski directed a spasmodically witty script by JH Wyman.

Time Out said: “This hokey-jokey comic thriller doesn’t add up to the proverbial hill o’ beans, but it’s an engaging curio all the same.”
