Enjoying Easter events in the sun

-

TWO separate Easter events raised a total of 1,220TL for the North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust (NCCCT) on Good Friday and Sunday.

Alsancak’s Black Olive Café held its annual Easter Market on Good Friday, with stalls selling home-made cakes, jewellery and ornaments along with hot cross buns — which were sold out — in addition to food from the venue. A raffle and games such as “guess the weight of the cake” were also staged.

“Although we planned for an outdoor event, we were forced to move indoors because of poor weather conditions,” said venue owner Vicki Karaca.

“We nevertheless had a fun time while helping to raise money for a very worthwhile charity which we have been helping with proceeds from our Easter markets for the past two years”.

Meanwhile, some 300 people turned up at the Wild Duck Café in

Lapta on Sunday for a family day out, with excited children taking part in egg hunts and egg-and-spoon races as others used playground facilities.

Visitors tucked into food purchased from stalls that also sold items including ceramic plaques, toys, Easter egg hampers and secondhand clothing.

Wild Duck owner Emma Elmaz said the event was the first of its type to be hosted by the venue, adding: “This time we wanted to do something for a charity which does great work for the community but which does not get as much attention as it should. We believe it was a huge success and we will continue to hold such events for good causes in years to come”.

NCCCT chairman Wendy Anderson said she was delighted that the NCCCT had been chosen as the beneficiary of the two events. “We thank Vicki and Emma for hosting such amazing events and for thinking of us,” she said.
