Tremendous turnout for ‘Tina’
THE UK’s number one Tina Turner tribute artist of 2017, Justine Riddoch, set pulses racing during her firstever show in the TRNC. Organised by the Supper Club, the two-hour spectacular raised 2,700TL for the Civil Emergency Service Volunteers (CESV 112) when it was staged before a sell-out audience of 240 in the Rooftop restaurant at Girne’s The Colony hotel on Thursday last week.
A two-course meal was served during the evening, which also saw the launch of the Supper Club’s 2018 season as the Liverpool-born tribute artist gave her rendition of songs immortalised by the legendary “Queen of Rock’n Roll”.
Ms Riddoch, who has 27 years of show business experience behind her, changed dress four times during a stunning light show created by her accompanying sound and lighting engineer. Following the performance, a Money Tree draw was held with three cash prizes — all of which were then donated by winners to the fundraising pot.
“This was a sold-out event within two weeks and it was a stunning performance that had people up and dancing throughout the night”, said organiser Laurence Floyd, who disclosed that two other shows are scheduled for this year, the first a Bee Gees tribute event on June 20 at The Colony Garden followed on September 15 by what is billed as “the world’s best Las Vegas-style Elvis show” to be held in Girne Amphitheatre.
“Normally we have two events each year but this time we are having three major shows as there is great demand for bigger events”, said Mr Floyd. “Each time we try to host someone different but even if we do have the same artists, we make sure it is at an interval of at least three years.”
CESV’s operational director Stephen Collard, who congratulated the Supper Club for hosting the fundraiser, said: “The proceeds will go towards the purchase of medical equipment such as neck collars for us to distribute to health centres and clinics in the TRNC”.
