PAINTINGS, glass, ceramics and sculptures feature in a two-month exhibition in Güzelyurt.

Mekan, İnsan, Bellek (Space, Person, Memory) showcases the work of 20 artists from across the island, including Hikmet Uluçam, Kemal Behçet Caymaz, Mustafa Öztunç and Kostas Karakitsos.

“A person — who creates a space and creates value to that space — uses art as a form of communication,” said curator Ayhatun Ateşin.

“The foundation of modernity and civilisation is art. Possibilities of a brighter and humane world can only be created through art. Art creates the indicators of the highest cultural values of a community and improves the living quality of individuals.

“How we value art coincides with how we value people. A developed community is measured by the value given to art and artists.”

The exhibition launched on Thursday at the Güzelyurt Municipality museum and exhibition hall. It will remain open on weekdays from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm, until June 12.
