A COOL thriller crackling with nerve-jangling tension. This game of cat and mousery is high-class entertainment.

Superstar Tom Cruise convinces as Vincent a pokerfaced, cold-eyed professional killer who jets into town for a night’s work.

Jamie Foxx is Max, a happy-go-lucky cab driver, coerced into chauffeuring Vincent around LA on his business trip. Vincent’s task is to murder all the witnesses in a trial that opens the following morning.

It soon dawns on Max that, as a witness to Vincent’s lethal assignment, he too is unlikely to survive the night. He tries to warn the next victim, a fetching young lawyer Annie alias Jada Pinkett Smith. She flees with Max pursued by the relentless killer.

Javier Bardem gives a typically polished cameo performance as the mastermind behind the mayhem. Good acting all round, realistic violence and the final chase sequence has real tension. Michael Mann directed in 2004 from a taut script by Stuart Beattie.
