Peter Rabbit Turkish version helps out Tulips
PROCEEDS raised at the launch of a Turkish-language edition of one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, have been donated to the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips).
The British children’s book has been translated into Turkish by Turkish Cypriot youth psychiatrist Erdem Beyoğlu and was launched at Gazimağusa’s City Mall, in a ceremony attended by “first lady” Meral Akıncı.
More than 1,600TL raised through sales on the day has been passed on to Tulips.
Speaking during the launch, Mrs Akıncı praised Dr Beyoğlu’s initiative and said: “Books increase children’s imagination, which . . . improves problem-solving skills, develops creative thinking and teaches them how to explain. Curiosity also improves through books.”
The story, already printed in 36 languages worldwide, was written in 1893 and illustrated by English natural scientist and conservationist Beatrix Potter, and is based on a mischievous and disobedient young rabbit. It has now sold 45 million copies and remains among the best known of the author’s 30 books.
The Turkish version can be found at all Deniz Plaza branches, Işık Kitabevi and Galeri Kültür in Lefkoşa, at the cost of 12TL.
