‘Cannabis grower’

A MAN grew almost 3,000 cannabis plants in a field in Lefke for his own personal use, a court heard.

Halil Fellahoğlu informed police that he had cultivated the land last year, which had yielded around three kilos of the drug, Lefke District Court was told.

Police arrested Fellahoğlu during a raid of his home and surrounding area last Thursday, where they discovered one kilo of cannabis along with a gun and two magazines containing 14 bullets.

Fellahoğlu was remanded in custody for eight days on Monday.

In a separate case before Lefkoşa Assizes Court on Thursday, Murat Güneş was jailed for one year and his nephew Ahmet Güneş for nine months for growing 64 cannabis plants at Bostancı.
