More than 100 at charity auction

- By YASEMIN GÜLPINAR

MORE than 100 people helped to raise 10,000TL for improvements to Karşıyaka Primary School at a Grand Charity Auction in the village’s Jessic bar and restaurant on Tuesday. Going under the hammer wielded by Karl Rugg was a wide range of items including curtains, a leaf blower, electric drill, acoustic guitar and garden furniture. Entertainment was provided by DJ Steve as people tucked into a barbecue, bought raffle tickets or inspected an “odds and ends” stall for bargains. Amanda Fiora, who organised the fundraising campaign with Malcolm Mitcheson and Jessic owner Mush Aziz, said there was now enough money to finish creating a media room and library at the school. “We had a number of charity events over the last six months and managed to redecorate the room, which is now divided into two. We have also put in new furniture, a projector and screen, five laptops and a large number of English-language books,” she said. “We would like to thank Jessic’s customers who have supported us from day one of the fundraising campaign by putting their hands in their pockets or purses. “Hopefully we will be able to undertake future initiatives for more improvements in facilities at the school.”
