THIS quirky British comedy combines time travel with a young man’s quest for the girl of his dreams.
Critics called it thought-provoking and emotionally moving. The public seemed to agree — it cost $12 million to make and took almost $90 million at the box office.
When Tim, alias Domhnall Gleeson reaches 21, his dotty dad, played by Bill Nighy, reveals his inheritance. He can travel back in time in a limited way — “You can’t kill Hitler or shag Helen of Troy!” Tim has other ambitions. He has fallen for Mary, an American beauty, alias Rachel McAdams, and he wants to turn back the clock to woo her.
Some say it’s an essay on the meaning of time and others say it’s simply an exploration of the relationship between a boy and his dad.
Scripted and directed by Richard Curtis in 2013 with strong overtones of the lovelorn heroes in his previous romantic comedies Four Weddings And A Funeral and Notting Hill.
