Armagh artists at Music Week
ARMAGH musicians lead the third annual St Andrew’s Church Music Week this month, with one of the highlights a concert of choral and organ music in aid of the Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) and the capital’s women’s refuge.
The season launches with a 10.30am Choral Eucharist on Thursday followed by a 7.30pm Festival of Favourite Hymns, chosen by the congregation and open to all, and concludes with a 10.30am Sung Festal Eucharist next Sunday, June 10.
The charity concert takes place at 8.30pm on Friday, and Earl Moffitt, director of music at the Girne church, has invited everyone to attend.
“This promises to be an evening of good music interspersed with popular organ solos, poetry reading and audience participation. Refreshments will be served afterwards for concertgoers in the precincts of the church,” he said.
Mr Moffitt added: “I am particularly pleased to welcome Martin White, former St Patrick’s Cathedral organist and master of choristers for 34 years, and his wife Noreen, music teacher, accompanist and choir leader, who leads an initial workshop for our members.
“We look forward to a great week of music-making and I am thrilled that all our choir members are here and have given up much time to prepare for the concert.”
He added that Canon White had toured internationally since retirement as an examiner for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, performed for recordings on BBC Radio 3 and was also a composer of church music, piano and orchestral compositions.
