Police suspended

-

THE head of Dörtyol police has been suspended over claims he allowed a wanted man into the country without arresting him, in exchange for a car brought from the UK. Chief Inspector Ali Savaş Altan, then based in Lefkoşa, was also allegedly present when the man paid £10,000 to a third person over the affair, the city’s court heard on Thursday.

Altan, accused of document forgery, receiving and giving bribes along with two other officers and two civilians, was remanded in custody in his absence after being taken to hospital with heart problems.
