Charity rolls out clothing recycling bins across TRNC

- By YASEMIN GÜLPINAR

BINS for donations of used clothing that can be sold or recycled in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) are being located across the TRNC, with the latest one now outside the Lefkoşa Kıbrıs Media Group offices of Cyprus Today.

The charity currently has 34 such bins dotted around the country, mainly in Girne, Gazimağusa and Lefkoşa, but plans to eventually have 150.

Donated clothes placed in the bins are sorted, with those of good quality going for sale at Tulips shops in Alsancak, Lefkoşa and Akdoğan and at the Saturday Lambousa market stall, while those in bad condition are sold by the kilo for recycling.

Tulips’ founding chairman Raziye Kocaismail said: “Not everyone might have cash to donate to cancer patients but everyone has something they can donate for sale or recycling and we have seen that people want to help us in any way they can.”

Meanwhile, donations of good condition clothes are also being welcomed by Alsancak shop managers Rachael and Trevor Lyes, who achieved record sales in June, raising 31,000TL for the charity. Donations can be made at the shop or to the donation bin at the Nülten Oral beauty salon in the centre of the village.
