Groundbreaking project helping children live a healthy and safe life
THIRTY selected children aged between seven and 14 are undertaking a ground-breaking programme of training which is aimed at helping them to live a healthy and safe life.
The joint initiative by the Prime Ministry’s Anti-Drugs Commission and the Medical Association is taking place in Lefkoşa and covers topics including personal hygiene, reading and how to guard against sexual abuse. Commission head Hasan Karaokçu said that, as with many other countries, immigration was increasing in the TRNC and becoming a major issue.
“Because of social and economic problems experienced by some of these families from outside the TRNC, education of children often ceases at an early age, resulting in them spending their entire day on the streets,” he said.
“This programme aims to lessen the negative impact.”
