Süleyman Mullahasan and Elif Sude Züğürt were crowned this year’s ‘king and queen’ of North Cyprus at a glittering gala night in Girne on Thursday.

MISS and Mr North Cyprus 2018 were crowned in a lavish finale on Thursday night.
Eighteen-year-old university student Elif Sude Züğürt won the Miss North Cyprus title, while 22-year-old university graduate Süleyman Mullahasan became Mr North Cyprus.
The final of the 32nd Miss North Cyprus and the 21st Mr North Cyprus competitions — organised by Bülent Günkut — took place at Girne’s Savoy Ottoman Palace Hotel.
Turkish pop star Emre Altuğ performed during the gala event, as did local acts Grup Rast and Bahar Gökhan. Entertainment continued with dance shows by Tuğçe Doygunel, Pınar Hacımehmet and the Spring Fairy group.
Miss Züğürt nd runners-up Tünay Konti and Gülsena Güler shared a 10,000TL cash prize, awarded by Akacan Holding.
The beauty competition started in 1984, and later turned into a social responsibility project, offering education opportunities to youngsters. The winners were given a full
bursary from Girne American University and will go on to represent the TRNC in international competitions.
Tuğçe Özgünler, 18, was given the Miss Savoy award, while Deniz Tüzmen, 18, was chosen as the Friendship Beauty.
Sergen Özbay, 22, took the Mr Savoy title, while the men’s Friendship Beauty award went to 21-year-old Kadir Arslan.
The 14 female contestants modelled evening wear by Midye and Juju boutiques, while the 12 male contestants modelled apparel by Altınyıldız and shoes by Bayramoğlu.
Proceeds from the ticket sales for the event will be donated to Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips), and the amount raised will be announced soon.
In the lead-up to the main event, the finalists, joined by Mr Günkut and his wife Zehra, popped into the
Cyprus Today office on Tuesday, during a visit to Kıbrıs Media Group. Flicking through pages of Cyprus
Today, they chatted with the team and shared their excitement about the event. They also visited Kıbrıs newspaper, Kıbrıs TV and Kıbrıs FM radio station, before meeting Kıbrıs Media Group vice-chairman Nur Nadir. On the same day they also met parliamentary Speaker Teberrüken Uluçay and Tourism and Environment Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, who congratulated them.
