ALSANCAK hosts a Friends Across Borders charity concert on Friday as local musicians take to the stage to support the Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips).

The 7.30pm charity show at the Soulist Music and Coffee House opens with Kaya Sururi and the Blue Moose at 8pm, followed by Blue Tears at 9.30pm and The Gentleman band at 11pm.

Tickets, at 40TL, are available from the venue but further donations will also be gratefully accepted.

Organisers Soulist owner and musician Alper Cengiz and Bayrak International radio blues and rock DJ Roland Eyerich joined forces with the municipality for the first concert which they hope will be repeated every year.

Mr Cengiz said: “Come and join us for this meaningful music night in The Soulist . . . and feel the beautiful feeling of helping people!”

The event is supported by the capital’s Home for Cooperation, Green Valley Rent-a-Car and Almond Holiday Village in Alsancak, and Lapta’s Le Chateau Lambousa, and more sponsors would be welcomed.

A CONCERT by South-based German musicians slated for October 8 at Bellapais Abbey has been cancelled due to Greek Cypriot complaints that their state-employed musicians should not play in the North.

International North Cyprus Music festival organiser Halil Kalgay confirmed that Wolfgang Schroeder and Jens Bachmann had pulled out after being called to a disciplinary meeting this week by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra board.

A statement will be released later regarding the November concert by the Papageorgiou Quartet.

The 16th season opened last night at the Girne Amphitheatre with a performance by the Ankara State Ballet and Opera of the Zorba ballet.

Concerts continue with a solo piano recital by Turkish virtuoso Fazıl Say at the atmospheric Salamis theatre, from 8.30pm next Sunday, September 30. Tickets are priced at 80TL and available from Deniz Plaza bookshops.

Kaleidoscope Tourism is offering bus transport from Girne’s Baldöken Car Park at 6pm or from the Çatalköy Supreme Supermarket car park at 6.10pm, at a cost of 30TL. The bus will return to Girne at about 10.15pm. Reservations must be made by Friday by phoning 0533 827 1717 or 9392 815 1818.
