New 3% discount scheme aids BRS

- By ŞIRIN ÖZKAYNAK

A NEW discount scheme for members of the British Residents Society (BRS) has already seen 150 members enrol and aims to raise funds for charity.

The BRS has teamed up with Lemar Supermarket for the “3+2” scheme, which offers its members a discount card giving a 3 per cent discount off shopping at the checkout. Another 2 per cent goes back to the BRS to be drawn down in cash at a later date to benefit the organisation.

BRS chairman Danny Dugan said the money would be put into a charitable fund to help pay for medical equipment for the central blood bank, as well as to help raise funds for future purchases.

“The money raised will go to buying a non-invasive haemoglobin analyser for the Lefkoşa Blood Bank, which costs about 7,000 euros and unfortunately because of the TL crisis, the cost has gone up by 40 per cent,” said Mr Dugan.

“We want to invest in causes that benefit the whole of society.”

Last Saturday’s roll out at the weekly BRS clinic at Lapta’s Lambousa Market saw 98 people register for the card. More registered at the BRS clinic at the Çatalköy branch of Creditwest Bank on Monday. Lemar staff were on hand at both venues to help promote the scheme.

With a current membership of 1,986, registration for the discount card is expected to accelerate in the coming months.

The scheme applies to BRS members and to all branches of Lemar.

BRS membership costs 40TL and those wanting more information can visit www.brstrnc.com.
