“DRUM roll!” proclaimed Barbara Burton as she announced that an auction in aid of the Hope 4 Pets charity on Sunday had raised £1,500.

Some 40 people attended the auction at Ozanköy’s Bar 33, which was conducted by Bayrak radio and television’s Can Gazi and Denise Phillips, with items going under the hammer including a sewing machine, a set of six leather chairs and many other goodquality, second-hand “lots”.

Food was also on offer, with some of the proceeds being donated to the cause along with funds from a raffle and from the sale of auction catalogues.

“It was the first auction we had organised for the charity, and it went brilliantly,” said Mrs Burton.

“All the support we received was fantastic and we also thank Can and Denise for presenting for us and boosting the atmosphere. They were the highlight of the event.”

Mrs Burton said the money raised would be spent on veterinary bills, mainly for injections against distemper and spaying, along with animal food and support for fostercarers.

Meanwhile, a buffet lunch and raffle supported by the H4P at Karaman’s Levant restaurant last Wednesday raised almost £350 towards the travel expenses of Cem, a rescue dog currently being cared for by Karaman villager Sylvia Austin, who found him wandering in July. Cem is now set to travel to a new home in the UK in December, once all the preparations are complete.

“I would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone for their support,” said Mrs Austin.
