Artists take part in Cyprus Paper workshop
LEFKOŞA’S historic Bedestan hosts an Eastern Mediterranean University exhibition of new artworks themed on Life in AN ARRAY of symbolic shapes and textures made from paper emerged from a workshop organised by the Cyprus Paper Artists’ Association and Arkın University of Creative Art and Design.
Artists from a range of disciplines — including Arkın Group chairman Erbil Arkın — took part in the workshops between September 11 and 14, with artworks created later shown in the university’s Lefkoşa art space.
Association honorary chairman İnci Kansu said: “We were so pleased with the participants who were educated, loved paper, enthusiastic and contributed their own skills into the techniques we showed.”
The association will hold an exhibition in İstanbul on Wednesday, at the Pusula Art House, featuring work by 22 Cyprus artists including Heidi Purgatory, by 22 artists whose works already feature in the university art collection.
Organisers said the show, which launched yesterday at 7pm, marked the start of the Trautmann, Kemal Behçet Caymaz, Sofia Hadjipapa-Gee, and Bedia Kale.
Organised by TRNC İstanbul academic year and that the new artworks would sum up artists’ feelings on Cyprus and their “plight” as artists.
Featured artists include Heidi Trautmann, Aşık Mene, Consul Fahri Yönlüer, the Kağıda Dönüş (Returning to Paper) show opens at 6pm and runs until October 13. Osman Keten, Şenol Özdevrim, Bahar Çıralı and Gönen Atakol and the exhibition may be visited today and from Monday until Thursday October 4 from 10am to 5pm.
