Critics rate this the most gripping movie about this dark art since the blockbuster The Exorcist almost 50 years earlier. This has the added credibility of being allegedly from a true story.
Father Michael Kovak, alias Colin O’Donoghue, is based upon the published memoir of a real-life American priest sent to Rome to study exorcism.
Under the tutelage of Father Lucas, a captivating performance by Anthony Hopkins, he loses his scepticism.
He is shocked by a pregnant girl, alias Marta Gastini, who seems possessed by Satan.
In 2011, Swedish director Mikael Hafstrom, pressed all the right buttons. Not quite as popular as The Exorcist, this cost $37 million to make and took almost a $100 million at the box office.
