International players take accolades in golf festival
SOME 120 golfers around the world have taken part in a fourday golf festival in Esentepe.
The Korineum Golf Festival, staged for the eight time since 2011, saw players from the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, South Cyprus and the TRNC take part in several competitions.
The event featured women’s, men’s and mixed pairs competition before concluding with a leg of the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Amateurs Competition, held in 100 venues across 62 countries.
Winner of the leg Emrah Şimşek will now compete in a final round in Belek, Antalya, for a chance to win a place at the Turkish Airlines Pro-Am.
Other prizes in the World Golf Cup competition went to Soner Yetkili, whose 38 points were second to Mr Şimşek’s winning score of 43, and Tim Case in third, also on 38. Kevin Mannering had the best gross score of 32 and Marie Dennis won a Nearest the Pin award.
In other competitions, the Men’s Open was won by Peter Lock. David Warrender was second and Kevin Mannering had the best gross score.
Claire Morley won the Ladies’ Open, with Jackie Worthington second and Julie Harrison carding the best gross. Violet Madle was Best Visitor, Özcan Bundak Nearest the Pin and Eileen Brader hit the longest drive.
Four ball, better ball competition winners were: Men: Paul Lea and Andrew Lee; Ladies: Jackie Worthington and Violet Madle; Mixed: Julie and Simon Harrison.
