-

POLICE are investigating two cases of incest, it was revealed this week.

In one, a father and uncle were both arrested on suspicion of raping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old Lapta girl, said in court to have been abused since the age of eight.

Police were alerted when the teenager contacted the Social Services Department, who took her into care and to Girne State Hospital for a medical examination. The men were remanded in custody for seven days yesterday.

Another father was held at Alayköy, west of Lefkoşa, after his 17-year-old daughter told police that he had raped her. Her claim was confirmed by doctors.

The arrests followed a complaint by a Gazimağusa 16-year-old that she had been raped at 6am last Friday.

Ahmet Burhan Ayan was arrested after the girl claimed he had “tricked” her by saying he would take her home, then driving to Glapsides beach instead, threatening her with a knife and raping her in his car.

Ayan, who denied the offence, was remanded in custody by Gazimağusa District Court.

Meawhile a man accused of raping a 35year-old British woman three times, after breaking into her Çatalköy home in the early hours of last Friday morning, has appeared in court again.

Yunus Timur, 26, who came to the TRNC to work eight months ago, was remanded in prison custody for two months by Girne District Court on Monday.
