Poole wins darts tournament
JACKIE Poole emerged the champion in a darts tournament for cancer charity, held in memory of a former player who died of the illness two years ago.
Twenty-four players took part in the women-only Eileen Neville Memorial Competition, staged by the North Cyprus Ladies Darts League at Club Tropicana in Ozanköy last Tuesday.
It raised 655TL for the Myton Hospice in Warwick, England, which cared for Mrs Neville, and her husband, Bob, presenting prizes and medals at the end of the event, said an emotional thank-you to everyone for “supporting a great cause”.
Ms Poole took the victor’s trophy after playing the final against Susie Forster.
League chairman Sue Ford, who organised the tournament with committee member Wilma Schofield, told Cyprus Today: “It was a fantastic day of darts and a grand final between Jackie and Susie, who put on some top darts skills that were thoroughly enjoyed by the 35 or so people who came to watch.”
Describing the late Mrs Neville as “an outstanding darts player”, she added: “Eileen was not only passionate about darts, she was a very much loved and respected member of our community . . .
“Eileen won the first championship singles competition in the summer of 2007 — the year the league started — and was part of the league winning team on numerous occasions. She was a competitive player who encouraged those around her, especially new players.”
