German season
A GERMAN-language six-week season of films, music and poetry launches tomorrow with a street party in the capital to the sounds of the Windcraft Band, children’s songs from the Pipiri band, a “Wood Wizard” workshop and culinary delights.
The party runs from 10am to 2pm and also offers information on German-language courses at the Goethe Institut, study courses and travel to Germanspeaking countries.
Organised by the embassies of Germany, Switzerland and Austria, the season features an English-subtitled screening of the 2014 film Beloved Sisters at 8pm on Monday at the Goethe Institut followed by a 9pm Tuesday screening at Cine Studio of a 2016 feature film on Kurdish immigrants to Germany, House Without a Roof.
The programme continues with two screenings of the postWWII film Phoenix at 8pm on Wednesday at the Goethe Institut and at 8.30pm on Friday at the South’s Skala Theatre.
A selection of short films from the Oberhausen Film Festival is on offer at the Artos Foundation at 8pm on Thursday and the gala premiere of a Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival performance by the Rimini Protocol Theatre Group, Home Visits Europe, is scheduled for next Sunday, October 28. Organisers advised that a time and place for the performance by a cast of 15 would be advised later and that reservations could be made via email to admin@home4cooperation.info.
The season continues until December 2 and all events are free.
The Goethe Institut is near the Ledra Palace Hotel and may be accessed via the Ledra Palace crossing.
South Nicosia venues are the University of Cyprus Cine Studio, the Artos Foundation at 64 Agion Omologiton Avenue and Larnaca’s Skala Theatre, at 15 Kyriakou Matsi Street.
