Charities readying for Xmas
CHARITIES are gearing up for the festive season, with seasonal product and event planning in full swing.
North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust (NCCCT) will launch the season with its Christmas Market and Fayre at the Kaya Palazzo Hotel in Karaoğlanoğlu from noon to 4pm on Sunday, December 2. The event will also mark the charity’s 30th anniversary with “special happenings” on the day, along with stalls selling a variety of cakes and pies. A raffle is to be held and there will be music, say organisers, with more information to follow nearer the date.
Anyone prepared to bake a cake or provide a prize or donation for the event is invited to call 0533 868 6078.
A Christmas Bazaar in aid of the Help Those With Cancer Association (Tulips) is to be hosted by the Black Olive Café between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday, December 12 at its new venue next to İktisat Bank in Alsancak. There will be a raffle and stalls selling produce and goods including Christmas cakes, decorations and mulled wine, with Father Christmas due to make an appearance. For more information, call 0533 835 5133.
Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR) is also preparing for its annual Christmas Bazaar which begins at 10.30am on Saturday, December 8 in Girne’s Pia Bella Hotel.
A Grand Raffle draw will take place, with tickets currently on sale, at 5TL, in all KAR shops. Volunteers can purchase a 100TL bundle of tickets to sell for the charity and prizes include a 500TL Lemar supermarket voucher, two return flights to Turkey and a hamper.
Stalls will be selling items such as cakes, mince pies, mulled wine, fashion accessories, pet products, bric-à-brac and Christmas decorations, while a Santa’s Grotto will be open for visits and a tombola is scheduled.
KAR’s 2019 calendar is now on sale for 50TL from the charity’s head office, its Girne charity shops, the Arapköy rescue centre, Saturday Lambousa Market stall and at the KAR information table which is open every Friday next to Girne Municipality headquarters. The calendar features pictures of some of the hundreds of rescue dogs, puppies, cats and kittens being cared for at the centre, or which have been re-homed.
Meanwhile, Hope 4 Pets (H4P) has launched Christmas card sales in the TRNC and UK, priced at £6 for a pack of 10 — after its reprieve from closure. Cards are available from the charity stall at the Wednesday Lemar market in Çatalköy and in the UK they can be purchased until Friday, November 30, by emailing Elizabeth Stowell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The charity is also planning a festive event, with details to be announced soon.
