Murder trial halts after defendant is taken to hospital
A MURDER trial was interrupted at Gazimağusa District Court on Tuesday when one of five defendants was taken to hospital by ambulance after complaining of being unwell.
Strict security was in place at the court when Nidai Şanlı, 28, Onur Körkut, 21, Ozan Körkurt, 18, Zekeriya Kurucu, 22, and a 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared on charges of murder, abduction, assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.
As evidence was given describing how the body of former Eastern Mediterranean University student Kennedy Taoimwabwa Dede, 25, was found in Çanakkale lake on January 30, Şanlı became unwell and was taken to hospital at the request of his lawyer. He was later brought back to court after doctors gave him a clean bill of health but the case was adjourned until yesterday.
