Mur­der trial halts af­ter de­fen­dant is taken to hos­pi­tal

A MUR­DER trial was in­ter­rupted at Gaz­i­mağusa Dis­trict Court on Tues­day when one of five de­fen­dants was taken to hos­pi­tal by am­bu­lance af­ter com­plain­ing of be­ing un­well.

Strict se­cu­rity was in place at the court when Nidai Şanlı, 28, Onur Körkut, 21, Ozan Körkurt, 18, Zek­eriya Ku­rucu, 22, and a 17-year-old girl, who can­not be named for le­gal rea­sons, ap­peared on charges of mur­der, ab­duc­tion, as­sault and pos­ses­sion of a dan­ger­ous weapon.

As ev­i­dence was given de­scrib­ing how the body of for­mer Eastern Mediter­ranean Univer­sity stu­dent Kennedy Taoimwabwa Dede, 25, was found in Çanakkale lake on Jan­uary 30, Şanlı be­came un­well and was taken to hos­pi­tal at the re­quest of his lawyer. He was later brought back to court af­ter doc­tors gave him a clean bill of health but the case was ad­journed un­til yes­ter­day.
