FORMER chairman of UK-based human rights group Embargoed! Fevzi Hüseyin took a harder line, saying: “I have been tweeting the UN direct this year on repeated occasions that they should be leaving Cyprus and attend to more deserving places where there is real bloodshed, famine and persecution.
“I feel very passionate about this issue. There is real conflict and bloodshed in Palestine, Syria, Yemen, to name a few, yet the UN is involved in Cyprus where there is no such occurrence.
“Without being dismissive, the UN is not preserving peace in Cyprus — those days have long past.
“Negotiations for a settlement can still be done under the UN Good Offices mission.
“It does not require a military presence on the island. There will always be nationalists on both sides but there is maturity around the Cyprus problem, unlike other places in the world.”
