Trio poised for music festival finale
A TRIO of Turkish basses is poised to bring the 16th International North Cyprus Music festival to a resounding finale at Bellapais Abbey this week following a Tuesday jazz concert by Lefkoşa composer and pianist Arman Ratip.
The capital’s uniquely talented virtuoso offers a programme of his own Variations on a theme of Paganini and his recent Jazz Sonata, Allegro-AndantePresto, in a performance with Berlin Art Ensemble founder and alto-saxophonist Nick Steinhaus.
Improvisational music from the duo’s recent Berlin concert is also promised after the interval.
The bass voices of Teyfik Rodos, Tuncay Kurtoğlu and Zafer Erdaş will bring a rich season of 17 concerts to a close on Friday with a programme of favourite opera classics and Russian and Turkish folk songs.
Their repertoire includes the Don Basilio aria from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Verdi’s Fiesco aria, Mozart gems from Figaro, The Abduction from the Seraglio and Don Giovanni, and Khrennikov’s Song of the Drunkards.
Tickets are priced at 50TL from Deniz Plaza bookshops or on the door on the night and all concerts begin at 8.30pm.
