Trio poised for mu­sic fes­ti­val fi­nale

A TRIO of Turk­ish basses is poised to bring the 16th In­ter­na­tional North Cyprus Mu­sic fes­ti­val to a re­sound­ing fi­nale at Bel­la­pais Abbey this week fol­low­ing a Tues­day jazz con­cert by Le­fkoşa com­poser and pi­anist Ar­man Ratip.

The cap­i­tal’s uniquely tal­ented vir­tu­oso of­fers a pro­gramme of his own Vari­a­tions on a theme of Pa­ganini and his re­cent Jazz Sonata, Al­le­gro-An­dan­tePresto, in a per­for­mance with Ber­lin Art En­sem­ble founder and alto-saxophonist Nick Stein­haus.

Im­pro­vi­sa­tional mu­sic from the duo’s re­cent Ber­lin con­cert is also promised af­ter the in­ter­val.

The bass voices of Tey­fik Ro­dos, Tun­cay Kur­toğlu and Zafer Er­daş will bring a rich sea­son of 17 con­certs to a close on Fri­day with a pro­gramme of favourite opera clas­sics and Rus­sian and Turk­ish folk songs.

Their reper­toire in­cludes the Don Basilio aria from Rossini’s Bar­ber of Seville, Verdi’s Fi­esco aria, Mozart gems from Fi­garo, The Ab­duc­tion from the Seraglio and Don Gio­vanni, and Khren­nikov’s Song of the Drunk­ards.

Tick­ets are priced at 50TL from Deniz Plaza book­shops or on the door on the night and all con­certs be­gin at 8.30pm.
