THREE people were injured, two seriously, in a collision between a car and a tractor which police said was not registered for use on the road and had no lights.

Mr Bozkurt, 70, and passenger Kemal Özdemir, 59, had to be cut out of the wreckage by firemen and were rushed to Lefkoşa State Hospital. Mr Bozkurt was said to have suffered a broken leg and internal bleeding and Mr Özdemir multiple fractures.

Tractor driver Taner Görür, 21, was treated for minor injuries at Girne’s Akçiçek Hospital.

The crash came at the end of a week in which police said 31 people were injured in 65 road accidents, 19 of them in Gazimağusa, 16 in Lefkoşa, 17 in Girne, eight in İskele and five in Güzelyurt.

A total of 6,774 drivers were stopped in roadside spot checks and 715 of them reported for a range of traffic offences.
