UBP: There can be no solution without Turkey

-

A TWO-state solution to the Cyprus problem was advocated by a delegation from the main opposition National Unity Party (UBP), led by party head Ersin Tatar, during a one-hour meeting with head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, at party headquarters in Lefkoşa on Monday.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Tatar said: “[President Mustafa] Akıncı represents a political base of no more than 10 per cent, so the UN is obliged to listen to our party as well. It is time to talk about a model of two separate states . . . that was the message we gave to Mrs Spehar.

“We have sent a plain message to the UN: there can be no solution without Turkey. I told Mrs Spehar, ‘Your world is different to ours. Your world envisages Turkey leaving the island.’”
