Swim­mers break records

TWO Turk­ish Cypriot swim­mers left new TRNC records in their wake when com­pet­ing in a ma­jor Turk­ish tour­na­ment.

Or­gan­ised by the Turk­ish Swim- ming Fed­er­a­tion, the gala was held in mem­ory of Ümit Saka, a renowned swim­ming coach who died in a traf­fic ac­ci­dent in Septem­ber.

The event which ended on Sun­day at the An­talya Turk­ish Olympic Prepa­ra­tion Cen­tre saw Near East Uni­ver­sity (NEU) team mem­ber Doğukan Ulaç record a time of 00.54.68 in the 100m freestyle to smash the TRNC record for the dis­tance.

Also in record-break­ing form was an­other NEU swim­mer, Emre Er­soy, who set a new best in the same event for the 14-16 age group by clock­ing 00.57.53.
