Seçkin Pirim leads One to All workshop

- By ANNE CANALP

THE Arkın University of Creative Arts and Design hosts a three-day One to All workshop led by Turkish artist and sculptor Seçkin Pirim this week at the Rodin Corner Digital Production Studio, No 11 Şair Nedim Sokak, behind The House restaurant and art gallery in central Girne. Born in Ankara in 1977, Mr Pirim graduated in painting and sculpture from Mimar Sinan University where he continues to work on his master’s degree.

His geometric and minimalist amorphous forms are cut from many layers of paper and plexiglass in negative and positive forms to form a “dual language game of multiplication via technology”.

Winner of a dozen awards, he has exhibited his work in London, Germany and Turkey.

Workshops are scheduled from 10.30am to 1pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and will develop the idea of focusing on the creation of new forms or patterns via the multiplication of a single image. Classes cost 120TL and are limited to 15 participants. For more information or to apply, email info@arucad.edu.tr or phone (0392) 650 6555.

Meanwhile the Art Rooms gallery has greeted the new year with Random ARUCAD, a “pop-up” exhibition of artworks by 13 artists and academics at the Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design.

Artists include Acere Nasmaz, Ali Azhari, Arun Medgalchi, Lale Dilbaş, Mustafa Akkaya, Mumine Özdemirağ Yağlı, Nur Onat, Rebecca Oğur, Rozhano Azimi Hashemi and Turan Aksoy. The show launched at 6pm on Thursday January 10 and may be visited every day of the week, including weekends, from 1pm to 9pm until Thursday January 31.
