Thousands of revellers welcome in 2019
THOUSANDS of revellers welcomed the New Year at TRNC hotels and clubs, with some being entertained by popular Turkish singers while tucking into meals or partying as DJs performed on the decks.
Celebrations last Monday night saw “superstar” Ajda Pekkan take the stage at Esentepe’s Elexus Hotel where she donned two different gowns — which stunned the audience — while Sıla was the attraction at Karaoğlanoğlu’s Merit Park Hotel.

The Voice Turkey, Lütfiye Özipek, performed at different venues inside Girne’s Lord’s Palace Hotel which hosted a party at its Sky Lounge Bar with entertainment by DJ Barriso while DJ Emre Üstünkaya entertained guests at Marrakech Lush Club.
At Çatalköy’s Cratos Premium Hotel, Ebru Gündeş performed before a crowd of some 500 people while Nilüfer sang to an audience of 400 at Girne’s Grand Pasha Hotel. Meanwhile, Seren Serengil and her husband Yaşar İpek performed as a duo at Acapulco Resort and Convention Hotel.
At Gazimağusa’s Salamis Bay Conti Hotel, Aşkın Nur Yengi entertained in the dance hall while Ahmet Evan performed in a different part of the hotel which was packed with some 2,000 revellers. During the night, a separate celebration was held in the hotel’s Chinese Restaurant where a mixture of foreign and local customers were entertained by the Ka Band — which has performed at the hotel for many years — and sang foreign and Turkish songs to herald the new year.
Some 1,500 people turned up to enjoy entertainment by Sibel Can at Bafra’s Cyprus Concorde Luxury Resort where she wished everyone “health and peace” for the New Year.
In Lefkoşa, Group Rast performed for three hours at the Barricade Bar in the walled city while in Girne various clubs saw DJ performances including TangoToBuddha where DJ Andım, Can Sezgin and Magoo entertained guests while at Almahara Club, DJ Doğuş Kılıç and Mr Joker were on the decks.
