Book launch for TC author
TURKISH Cypriot author and painter Kemal Behçet Caymaz’s first English-language book, Sapphire: The Promised Time, was launched last week at an exhibition featuring illustrations and photographs of people appearing in it. The exhibition, sponsored by the Culture Department, American University of Cyprus, European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA) and the Work Health and Safety Centre, was attended by Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, head of the Culture Department Şehbal Hazamoğlu, head of EMAA Gökçe Keçeci and translator of the book, Ceren Karanar who all delivered speeches. Thanking everyone for attending, Mr Caymaz said: “This book that I started writing when in high school is now being read all over Europe.
“I would like to thank Ceren for translating it . . . and my family, who always supported me. I also thank everyone else who made a contribution towards this journey.” Mr Caymaz signed copies of Sapphire: The Promised Time, which is available on Amazon for £10 for the basic edition and £35 for the “colourful” edition containing illustrations. It can also be purchased from TRNC bookshops, including the Best Seller bookshop, priced at 60TL.
