THE true story of an unlikely love affair between a Hollywood screen goddess and an English jobbing actor that changed both their lives. A classy weepy with some killer dialogue.

Annette Bening convinces as screen vamp Gloria Grahame, an Oscar-winning actress who starred in such dark melodramas as The Big Heat back in the Fifties. She won Best Supporting Actress in 1952 for The Bad and the Beautiful. At a cocktail party, this stylish blonde beauty with a husky voice danced the night away with young English actor Peter Turner, alias Jamie Bell. Their passion lasted a couple of years in LA, New York and Liverpool.

In the twilight of her career, Gloria was doing a theatre tour of England when she collapsed on stage. She contacted Turner who took her to his family’s terraced home in Liverpool. They poignantly rekindled their romance before she died. Keep a box of tissues handy. Directed by Paul McGuigan in 2017 from a script by Matt Greenhaigh.
