THIS offbeat high school romp has adult appeal. In a college for the children of super-heroes, teenager Will, alias Michael Angarano is the only kid without special powers.

But he still copes with the school bully, tyrannical teachers and an evil mastermind with plans to wipe out super-heroes all together. This is Disney’s version of Harry Potter, but none the worse for that.

Will is the son of a legendary hero The Commander, a wonderfully hammy performance by Kurt Russell. Will’s mom is the aerodynamic Jetstream, alias Kelly Preston, but poor old Will has inherited none of his parents’ superpowers.

Will’s classmates are mostly special. One lass can shape-shift herself into a striped guinea pig and one little lad can instantly become a puddle. Adding to the fun is former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter as the college principal.

Mike Mitchell imaginatively directed in 2005 from a script by Paul Hernandez, Robert Schooley and Mark McCorkle.

Empire magazine said: “As derivative as it all may be, it’s still superb entertainment. Has the potential to become your favourite film ever — if you’re eight. Even if you’re older, chances are you’ll love it too.”
