Batman Forever 5.40pm beIN Movies Stars
IF THE big kid in you digs Batman movies, the critics say this is the most enjoyable yet. In 1995, Val Kilmer took over from Michael Keaton as the caped crusader and introduced a new note of levity. This super hero has also been played by George Clooney and Christian Bale, but nobody makes us smile more than Kilmer.
He confronts two grotesque villains — Harvey TwoFace, alias Tommy Lee Jones with half his face eaten away by acid, and The Riddler, played by Jim Carrey, in a skin tight pea green suit with a wonderful shock of orange hair. It is the rubber-faced Riddler who mostly raises the on screen temperature.
Our hero is aided by Nicole Kidman as a sexy psychiatrist, but the scene stealer is Batman’s sidekick Robin exuberantly played by former circus acrobat Chris O’Donnell.
For this adventure, director Joel Schumacher took over from Tim Burton and consciously introduced a lighter tone.
Radio Times called it: “Easily the funniest in the series, with the action hurtling along at a breakneck pace. Throw in stylish special effects and you have a rousingly undemanding piece of popcorn fodder.”
