A DERBY match between Küçük Kaymaklı (KK) and Yenicami ended in a 6-3 victory for home team KK during the 14th week of the K-Pet Super League, with one commentator declaring: “The Forest Typhoon swept away the Eagle”.

The second half saw action continuing, with Okafor Onyekachi scoring in the 56th minute to make it 4-1 while in the 59th minute, Barkın Ozaşık slammed the ball home and Okafor Onyekachi converted a penalty in the 73rd minute.

In the final minutes, Yenicami’s Mehmet Göktaş scored in the 85th, with Altın clocking-up his second goal of the game in the 89th minute with a penalty to end the match 6-3.

Meanwhile, Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG) plans for league leadership continued after beating away team Düzkaya — currently near the bottom of the league — with a convincing 3-0 victory. The goals were scored by Peter Ebi in the 11th and 53rd minutes and Adil Uçar in the 41st minute.

In another much talked-about game of the week, home side Merit Alsancak Yeşilova thrashed Lefke 6-1. “Lefke was destroyed,” headlined the Kıbrıs daily in its report of the game that was played last Saturday at Karaoğlanoğlu Orhan Dural Stadium. The first goal, however, came from the losing side’s Isaac Appiah, in the sixth minute.

Emmanuel Mbah then mounted a fourgoal blitz in the 36th, 51st, 53rd and 72nd minutes and was declared man of the match. Billy Mehmet, meanwhile, scored in the 46th minute whilst Burak Koçar found the net in the 87th minute.

In another game, Göçmenköy beat away team Hamitköy 4-2. One commentator, meanwhile, said “Çetinkaya have come out of their coma” after the club beat away side Gençlik Gücü 1-0. Çetinkaya have been struggling to exit the relegation zone following nine loses in the first nine weeks of the league this season.

Doğan Türk Birliği (DTB), which is trying to make its way to first place in the league, played Gönyeli — which, on 10 points, is trying to make its way out of the bottom of the league. DTB was the winning team, ending the match 2-0 following goals by Babacar Diop, who scored in the 27th and 43rd minutes.

The most important fixture of the week in terms of league leadership was between Türk Ocağı (TO) which beat Cihangir 1-0 at Girne’s 20 Temmuz Stadium on Sunday. The Cihangir defeat thus prevented the side going top of the league. The only goal of the game was scored by TO’s Sylla Insa who headered the ball into the net. MTG is now first with 32 points, Cihangir second on 30, Türk Ocağı third on 29 and DTB is fourth on 28 points.
