Quiz boost for charity
OVER 3,500TL was raised for the Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) at two quiz nights.
On Tuesday quizmaster Steve Gittins presented a quiz at Alvadar restaurant in Lapta, while Mr Gittins’s brother Martin conducted the same quiz at the same time with teams in Manchester. There was also a raffle with prizes donated by individuals and local businesses. The UK and TRNC-based teams raised a total of 1,265TL. The overall winning team was from Manchester, who donated their winnings back to Tulips, Mr Gittins, who thanked all those involved, told Cyprus Today.
Last Friday 2,360TL was raised at a music quiz at Hoots Bistro and Restaurant in Ilgaz.
Sue Tilt, of Tulips, thanked “everyone who attended and parted with their money” and also the restaurant owners for donating 20TL from every meal.
A “huge thank you” went to Jonathan Hall-Smith, who “must have spent hours putting together a great music quiz” with a bottle of wine going to the “QuaranTina Turners” team for the “most innovative team name to do with music”.
“The successful team very kindly donated their winnings of 220TL to Tulips and Tony Gillan bid 350TL for a returned meal voucher,” Mrs Tilt said.
She also thanked fundraisers for supporting Tulips “in these difficult times” and the sponsors who provided raffle prizes.
Meanwhile Kurt Duffield and Maureen Jennings are due to take part in a 12-hour “Bowl-A-Thon” in aid of Tulips from 6.45am to 6.45pm at the Olive Press Bowling Club in Lapta on Friday, October 2.
