Nadirs’ unforgettable game,

Non-Turkish speaking players can improve knowledge of the language and island

A COLOURFUL TRNC twist has been put on a classic memory card game. The “Nadirs’ Memory Game” includes 20 pairs of matching cards highlighting the “treasures of North Cyprus” such as landmarks, unique dishes, wildlife and famous Turkish Cypriots.

It features the donkeys of Karpaz, the Caretta caretta sea turtle and figures such as the founding TRNC President Rauf Raif Denktaş, Turkish Cypriot leader Dr Fazıl Küçük, businessman and Cyprus Today owner Asil Nadir, and Near East University founder Dr Suat Günsel.

Non-Turkish speaking players can improve their knowledge of the language and local terms that are included on the cards, such as “Çakıstez” (green olive) and the “Büyük Han” (Great Inn) in Lefkoşa.

The rules of the game, which can be played on a coffee table, are simple: shuffle the pieces and lay them face down in rows on a flat surface. Players take turns to flip over two cards at a time. If the cards match then the player keeps that pair and has another turn. If the cards do not match then the player replaces them face down and play passes to the next player. The game ends when there are no cards left and the player with the most matching pairs is the winner.

The cards are thick and have a soft, shiny surface that provides a “pleasant playing experience”. The game comes in its own box featuring the images on the cards and a beautiful branded bag with handles, making it an ideal gift or souvenir.

The Nadirs’ Memory Game costs 95TL and is available to purchase at Deniz Plaza branches and Şah Marketplace in Çatalköy. Orders can also be made online at www.lisanur.com or by calling 0539 107 9090 to have the game delivered to your home.

A children’s version of the concentration game in English and Turkish, featuring 30 pairs of cards with images of animals, fruits and vegetables, is also available for the discounted price of 85TL.
