Blue Mink

DO YOU remember Blue Mink (196974)? A band made up of skilled session musicians – Roger Coulam (keyboards), Roger Cook (vocals), Alan Parker (guitar), Herbie Flowers (bass), Barrie Morgan (drums) and the fabulous Madeline Bell (vocals). Their top 10 hits included Melting Pot, Banner Man, Stay with me and my favourite, Randy. During their hit-making period, the whole band continued with their individual session work for other artists, appearing on countless recorded hits. Such was the demand for their talents.

Cook and his song writing partner, Greenaway, wrote numerous other top 10 hits, too many to recount here. Herbie Flowers was the bass players’ bass player, later joining classical guitarist John Williams in the “classical” rock band Sky. These folk were REAL musicians, largely forgotten individually by everyone, except sad old music fanatics like me. None of them were “Rock Gods”, but as musicians, they deserve to be ranked up there with the best. As Blue Mink, they epitomised an era. I saw them in 1973. What a live band. Rock on!
