Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) ✰✰✰✰✰ (Film4, 9.00pm) All-action archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) made the perfect debut in this hugely enjoyable adventure from director Steven Spielberg and executive producer George Lucas (who also came up with the story alongside Philip Kaufman). He goes in search of the legendary Ark of the Covenant, encountering Nazis and his old flame Marion (the spirited Karen Allen) along the way. Ford is perfect as the hero, although he famously wasn’t the first choice for the role – it was originally offered to Tom Selleck, who had to turn it down because of his commitment to the TV series Magnum PI.
The New Mutants (2020) ✰✰✰ (Sky Cinema Premiere, 11.20am & 10.00pm) Cheyenne teenager Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) is the sole survivor of a tornado which tears through her tribe’s reservation. She wakes up in hospital under the care of Dr Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), who reveals that Dani is on the cusp of discovering her ‘mutant’ powers. Dani is introduced to the doctor’s other charges: miner’s son Sam (Charlie Heaton), shrinking violet Rahne (Maisie Williams), rich kid Roberto (Henry Zaga) and troublemaker Illyana (Anya TaylorJoy). Under close supervision, tempers flare and secrets bubble to the surface, compelling Dani to question Dr Reyes’ motives.
