Mağusa Türk Gücü open up gap at top

- By TOM CLEAVER

AKSA Super League leaders Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG) opened up a fourpoint gap at the top of the table with a hard-fought 3-2 victory away at relegation-threatened Baf Ülkü Yurdu last Saturday.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges, but a breakaway goal from Sadık Balarabe saw MTG take the lead, before Osita Obiekwe replied from the penalty spot.

Balarabe scored his second before half time, and Mickael Pote added a third for the visitors at the start of the second half. Obiekwe scored a well-taken consolation, but it was not enough to stop MTG from taking the three points.

Second placed Doğan Türk Birliği conceded two stoppage time goals away to Göçmenköy to lose ground in the title race. Arda Sözcü scored twice at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Stadium on Sunday to seal a 2-0 victory and move Göçmenköy up to seventh in the league.

Fellow title-chasers Gönyeli also slipped up, against lowly Hamitköy, with Daniel Cyrus Kalu scoring the only goal in a 10 scoreline that saw 13th placed Hamitköy put considerable daylight between themselves and the relegation battle last Saturday.

Three goals in the opening 15 minutes saw Merit Alsancak Yeşilova breeze past bottom club Girne Halk Evi (GHE) at the Karaoğlanoğlu Orhan Dural Stadium on Saturday, with the match eventually finishing 4-1.

MAY remain in fourth place, five points off top spot, while GHE remain rooted to the foot of the table.

A late equaliser saw Yenicami rescue a point away at Lefke, with veteran striker Fırat Ersalan firing home just two minutes before full time.

Yonpaş Dumlupınar moved up to eighth place with a comfortable 3-0 win over lowly Binatlı at the

Dr Fazıl Küçük Stadium in Gazimağusa.

The damage was already done when Ismael Kone was sent off for Binatlı, fouling Berk Büyükkal as he ran through on goal.

A feisty encounter in Paşaköy saw three players sent off as Mesarya and Küçük Kaymaklı played out a 1-1 draw. Küçük Kaymaklı’s Mikail Sivri was the first to be sent off for swearing at the referee, Mesarya’s Okan Göktürk was sent off just two minutes later for a reckless tackle, and his teammate Remzi Betmezoğlu rounded off the red cards, given his marching orders with 10 minutes to go for a second bookable offence.

Ertaç Taşkıran had opened the scoring for Mesarya, but an 87th minute penalty from Muhammet Nazik saw the spoils shared.

Türk Ocağı and Cihangir played out a 0-0 draw at the 20 July Mete Adanır Stadium in Girne on Sunday.
