MP: North Cyprus is a safe tourism destination
NORTH Cyprus is attracting attention as a safer and healthier tourism destination, according to Dr Ahmet Savaşan, National Unity Party MP and president of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council.
Speaking at the Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair, a conference of tourism professionals from across the world held in İstanbul, Dr Savaşan said that North Cyprus’s comparatively low Covid-19 death rate made the country stand out among other countries in the world.
Dr Savaşan made a point of noting how North Cyprus had performed much better during the pandemic than countries such as the United States, European Union member states and the United Kingdom.
He explained how the involvement of high-level scientists at local universities in the decision-making processes regarding pandemic regulations, the high level of compliance among citizens and residents in the country, the extraordinary effort of healthcare professionals, and the support given by the Republic of Turkey contributed to this success.
In addition to a successful battle with the pandemic, Dr Savaşan pointed out that the number of hospital admissions for diseases such as heart disease, cancer, HIV, and diabetes have also decreased in North Cyprus.
He also believes that the TRNC could become a destination for “health tourism” – people travelling from abroad to receive healthcare.
Taking into account North Cyprus’s geographical location, its “comfortable” hospitals with “smart” buildings, as well as its modern IVF centres, Dr Savaşan explained that North Cyprus has the necessary features to become a popular health tourism destination.
He went on to say that this will be boosted further by the modern technological devices, and the relative low cost of private treatment in comparison to other countries.
Dr Savaşan concluded his speech by announcing his belief that North Cyprus will achieve an “important breakthrough” in 2022 with regards to the safe and healthy options it offers to tourists, as well as the advantageous health tourism packages.
