Herb Festival held in Tatlısu
THE Tatlısu Herb Festival was held for the sixth time last Sunday, exhibiting Turkish Cypriot culture, as well as the products and herbs of both the Tatlısu area and North Cyprus as a whole. The festival was attended by TRNC President Ersin Tatar, first Lady Sibel and Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu, as well as various other dignitaries from both North Cyprus and Turkey.
President Tatar made a speech at the festival, extending his warm wishes to the Tatlısu Municipality for the event’s success, after it had not taken place last year as a result of the pandemic. He said that “this festival, which has been inaugurated under the slogan of returning to nature, will be beneficial”.
Later in his speech, President Tatar mentioned his wife First Lady Sibel Tatar’s ‘Zero Waste Project’, which aims to promote recycling in the TRNC, and is currently being piloted in Tatlısu. He spoke of how his administration is “working to provide a better, more prosperous future for future generations”.
Finally, he heaped praise on Tatlısu Mayor Hayri Orçan, and wished him success.
Mr Orçan also made a speech, in which he claimed that his municipality is “consciously aware” of the need to protect and conserve the environment. He later pointed out that his municipality attaches “great importance to culture and art”, explaining that “festivals are very important in our culture, and in terms of tourism and bringing about economic activity”, adding that “we are also able to raise awareness of different matters related to our environment through such festivals”.
