How the hell are people going to pay these electricity bills?

-

HAS the TRNC completely taken leave of its senses? The beginning of April is the first time the public have received the new electricity bills after KıbTek put up its prices, and judging by the comments on social media, everybody, without fail, is very shocked, dismayed and WORRIED. Some bills have trebled and even quadrupled.

Is the government and Kıb-Tek trying to drive us all out of the country? Some bills are 8,000TL, when they were previously 2,000TL. How the hell are people going to manage to pay this even if they are reasonably well off? And the poor Cypriots will be at the end of their tether on top of all the other price increases.

What beats me and most members of the public is that it is rumoured that large hotels, large businesses and the government don’t pay their bills and their share of the cost of the electricity.

It is said that they owe millions and billions of TL. If this is so, why should they not pay, and Joe Public and the poor Cypriots have to subsidise them and foot the electricity bill? Some of these costs are now higher than the UK, and I for one am seriously considering leaving Northern Cyprus and returning to the UK.

The government needs to get a grip of Kıb-Tek and this serious situation and revert back to the way things were, or somehow get a more reasonable price structure.

Or, if it is true that large hotels, businesses and the government don’t pay their way, they should be made to pay their share. I am prepared to bet no other country in the world would put up with this situation.
