Burned out beach restaurant to rise from the ashes

THE restaurant at Yeniboğaziçi Municipality Beach is to be rebuilt after it was turned to ashes in a fire that broke out there.

According to information provided by the police, the fire started at around 7.20am on August 10, and was put out by police, fire brigade and Forestry Department teams.

Yeniboğaziçi Mayor Mustafa Zurnacılar said that the municipality’s restaurant “belonged to the public” and spoke of his “great sadness that it completely burned down”.

Mr Zurnacılar added that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the restaurant’s kitchen and that it “spread quickly because the structure was made of wood”.

He said that the restaurant will be rebuilt “as soon as possible”.

On Sunday President Ersin Tatar visited the site of the fire. He said that “great damage” had been caused despite the “timely intervention” of firefighting teams.

He expressed his belief that the restaurant will be “repaired in a short time and put back into service for the people of the town and the country”.
