Driver dies, passenger badly hurt after car smashes into tree
A DRIVER died and his passenger was seriously injured after crashing head-on into a tree in the early hours of last Friday.
Ercan Biçer, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred on the old Boğazköy-Gönyeli road at around 1.15am, police said.
Mehmet Yapıcı, 26, was taken to Lefkoşa Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
According to a statement issued by the police, the accident occured when Mr Biçer, a Lefkoşa resident, was traveling north on Atatürk Caddesi in Boğazköy and “lost control” of his car on a bend, crashing into a cypress tree at the roadside. The police launched an investigation into the accident.
