Girne featured in comic art journal
GİRNE’S International Olive Cartoon Contest has been featured in the latest edition of the biannual International Journal of Comic Art (IJOCA).
The article in question speaks of a “monumental event” taking place in a “tiny country”, and runs for a total of 27 pages, featuring interviews with Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü and local artists Hüseyin Çakmak and Musa Kayra.
Mr Güngördü said that IJOCA editor John A Lent is a “world-renowned authority on caricature, comics, and cartoons, as well as being the owner and publisher of the IJOCA” and that Mr Lent had attended the International Olive Cartoon Contest after Mr Güngördü had invited him.
Mr Güngördü thanked the IJOCA for the “extensive coverage”, adding: “Despite all the embargoes, if we can promote the TRNC in cartoon magazines in America, a global giant, it is an indication of the validity of the decisions we have made and the work we have done.”
