-

AN ELDERLY woman had to be rescued by firefıghters after falling into a 20-metre deep well in the village of Serdarlı on Sunday afternoon.

Hatice Hisman, 83, was picking figs in her neighbour’s garden when the soil that she was standing on next to the concrete-covered entrance to the well gave way.

She fell into water one metre deep, landing in a “sitting position”, reports said. Eye witnesses feared the worst for Ms Hisman and called the Geçitkale Fire Department, police and paramedics, who rushed to the scene.

After being rescued by the firefighters using a special tripod winch, Ms Hisman was taken to the Lefkoşa Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital to be examined.

Luckily she sustained no injuries in the accident and was reported to be in a good

condition.
